Meet Johanna and Edward, they're expecting!
I think these two are the sweetest people, and probably the first couple I've met who have known each other since they were in KINDERGARTEN! I mean really, do you remember anyone from those years? I guess now with social media that is much easier, but I was so impressed with these two and the love they have for one another. Meeting people who have found their soul mate, it's incredible to see. They were married in 2019 and are expecting their first, a baby boy, this May.
Their dream babymoon would have been down to the Bahamas, but unfortunately this far along in Johanna's pregnancy and with covid still being a concern they decided to drive from their home in NYC down to Kiawah Island for that dream like relaxation. They had a few amazing stops along the way to enjoy the scenery and take a break from such a long drive. But I know they loved their Charleston visit and sights of the ocean.
Styling for Johanna felt easy to me because she sent me a picture from their wedding in 2019. I was able to see her wedding dress, the style she chose and what really looked good on her. We started and ended with dresses of hers that she brought along, but I also wanted her to use my Athena gowns because I loved the way she looked in the mermaid style which matched her wedding dress shape. The blues and whites just looked really good with her skin tones, but also the fact that we wanted to celebrate them having a boy. I don't usually tell my moms-to-be to worry too much about that aspect, but she just looked so good in blue anyway, so it worked perfectly.
As you can already tell, we had a pretty cloudy, borderline overcast day on Isle of Palms. You might actually be wondering now, if they were staying on Kiawah Island Resort why we did Isle of Palms and really it was a factor of timing and coordination with hair and makeup. Johanna got her hair and makeup done downtown at Lashes and Lace salon. Unfortunately the salons near Kiawah didn't have any openings, it is off-season after all, but because they were already going to be downtown Isle of Palms was a perfect spot and a quick hop over the Ravenel Bridge. We were able to start early because HMUA works so quickly and because of our cloudy skies. Normally, I would have never thought I had time for 4 dresses but we made it happen with total efficiency.
Don't forget: the little details always help tell your story
While we may not have had one of those over the top sunsets with exaggerated colors, I think the sunset they were given was EXACTLY what they were looking for. It reminded me so much of an island sunset in the Bahamas. It was lightly colored, no one was on the beach (it definitely was chilly) and the little silver linings of clouds were exactly what we needed.
