Historic Charleston has become quite the destination hot spot for Senior Portraits, and I think I have the Netflix series Outer Banks to thank for that! Our quaint architecture, beautiful window boxes and charming glow through the streets isn't bad on the eyes and it makes a perfect backdrop. Now I have to remind you, Charleston summers are super HOT and humid so I stress to all my clients to do as early morning as possible to beat the heat. But having all the picturesque spots to yourself also doesn't hurt one bit either. For Jenna's session we focused on the South of Broad area of Church, Meeting and White Point Garden so that she could take advantage of color, textures, and the magnificent trees. Three outfits gave us the perfect mix to showcase her beauty, while also pairing seamlessly with the area.

Pairing your outfits for Charleston: Think Color Wheel

Planning my senior sessions comes with knowing what my Clients plan to bring. And from there I simply think back to when I was grade school and learned about the color wheel. I love pairing contrasting colors, it really makes the outfit pop.

And at the same time, the void of color almost stands out just the same. Pairing white with darker colors or neutral colors is also a pretty sure way to have a stunning portrait. I love working with the contrast of light for something more edgy when we get into later hours of morning. It's hard to avoid that stark light sometimes anyway, so I feel like embracing that contrast works for something a little more powerful.

The summer heat of Charleston is paired with the blooming of the Crepe Myrtles in colors of white, pink, and purple. The most popular are the pink blooms which can be found on lower Meeting Street, and the white would be my second favorite found on Atlantic Street.

And finally, you can't beat the morning light at White Point Garden with the backlit trees and winding branches. This is by far one of the easiest spots to end your session because it looks good almost any time of day!
