Melisa and Ely's Maternity Session on Rainbow Row

This session was such a pleasure to capture with the most perfect early April weather and a golden hour to show off. This spring I've really been favoring the look of Rainbow Row at evening golden hour, essentially once the sun is on the other side of the city. Not only do I have  more even light to work with, but as you'll see towards the end of this session we got some really dramatic light to play with as well. I know my favors will switch back to mornings soon since this tourist spot stays busy until the early evening during the summer months. But I'll savor this look while I have it!

If you've read any of my previous blogs you know that I am the planner. I love when I know what outfits I'll be working with so that I can completely plan my session around each one to give the best overall look. Thankfully for me, Melisa decided to wear all dresses from my Client Closet so I already knew exactly what our plan might be. They really wanted to capture that charm and familiarity of Rainbow Row as they are new here to the area so we started on East Bay near Tradd Street, up Rainbow Row and turned down Elliott Street to head towards Meeting. 

One of my FAVORITE dresses is this tulle mermaid dress appropriately named Ariel by Chicaboo. I have it in white, royal blue and this rose gold and they are perfection on every mom that steps into it. I love the texture it brings against the houses and streets that are in Historic Charleston and the mermaid shape frames each bump pefectly.

Above you'll see Elliott Street which I often feature in my Charleston Routes for Rainbow Row because it's so versatile both in morning and evening light. I often call it my Rainbow Row "Substitute" because I can actually get most of it in the shot without all the cars that park along the actual Rainbow Row.

Wisteria is one of those blooms that you've got to love while it's here because before you know it - it's gone. Even just a bad rain storm can knock off all these tiny little blossoms so it's a real treat for my spring clients to have it perfectly captured in their session. You know it's popular when you have to wait about 5 minutes for your turn in front of it too. This spot is a photographer's dream and typically super busy with other families, photographers, and tours.
