Meet The Dalton Family

The South of Broad area has definitely been my go-to this late summer and fall for it's flexibility with lighting and it's beautiful mis of colors, textures, and architecture. It has served as the perfect spot for so many families whether formal or casual dressed, or senior portraits. While the lighting allows for morning or evening sessions I have really nailed it down to a certain time of day depending on which spots in the area each family prefers, and I would say that evening is definitely a tad more flexible in this area for that reason. 

The corner of Atlantic Street and Church Street brings together a subtle color scheme so beautifully while giving lots of texture with brick and window boxes. This has been great for fall portraits since it goes so well with darker jewel tones or muted tones as seen in this session. This little corner of Charleston has always provided me with the perfect amount of color and charm to represent my city without being too loud or contrasting.

I love snagging individual portraits of kids here because they have enough room to really do whatever they please, even if they just stand there and look cute! The whole family gets a matching portrait in the exact same spot which makes a gallery wall so much easier to put together.

Another favorite any time of year but especially this time of year and giving mom and dad separate portraits with their kids. You know normally there is always one person making a silly face, or maybe it's mom that never gets the portrait with her kids because she's always the one taking the pictures. This gives me the best opportunity to show mom at her best, too. And at the same time, mom and her girls, dad and the boys - these are forever pictures that I see re-shared over and over again on social media. More than family pictures believe it or not!

While frequently I have families more interested in the posed portraits than candids I have also found that these families do end up really loving those candid moments I capture. Even if those moments are prompted, I think it's also important at a point to let you kids be kids and let them laugh and be silly. We can always wait until the end of the session if that posed portrait really is the most important. But I promise you'll love seeing the personality and silly in the candids, too.

And let's not forget, my favorite part of my sessions is actually creating a matching headshot for all your children as well. Sure they always have somewhat matching school portraits... but they don't really take those seriously and how amazing do these look all hung on your walls together?
